01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Step into the expansive, warehouse-like interior, and you are met by a neat drinks menu and an inviting counter display of baked goods. Located beneath the elevated train tracks in Nishi-Kameari, Katsushika Ward, TAWKS operates as a quiet cafe imbued with a distinct cultural and artistic air.
On the coffee front, alongside the staple Today's Coffee and hand-drip brews, espresso-based milk drinks are a highlight. Served in plump white ceramic cups, the flat white delivers a velvety, rounded milk texture that encourages you to slow down. Depth and character also come through in the cafe latte and americano, making it easy to find an option suited to the hour.
The baked treats on the counter bring playful twists. A soft cookie that layers rich miso paste into chocolate pairs a moist top with a crumbly crisp bottom, leaving a lingering, savory-sweet depth. Other items include thick slices of fragrant banana bread, organic cookies touched with sea salt and chocolate, and orange-and-chocolate pound cake—all understated yet thoughtfully made.
Beyond coffee, the tea selection is generous, ranging from Tea Forest (a blend of kuromoji spicebush and oolong) and Tea Amber (scented with cinnamon and roasted hojicha) to chai and matcha latte. With its bare concrete surfaces and quiet footing, the space offers a calm place to unwind over memorable drinks and sweets.
